Would you ever agree to an arranged marriage???
~Typical Albanian Arranged Marriage~
During the past 10 years things and arranged marriage traditions have changed a lot however, there are still many cases were couples are arranged to get married and they actually go through with it.
Basically, Albanian girls were arranged to marry whomever their family chose for them. The family would choose by making sure the husband to be was healthy, wealthy, smart, manly, understanding, hard-working, likable, had a great, honored, respected character and family.
The girl and the man would usually get to see a picture of one another, or they would get to see each other when the man would go over the girl’s house for coffee with his parents. Once they saw each other for a few seconds. If they both agreed, (in some cases the girls weren’t asked for their opinion at all), the families would agree too, and go on with the engagement plans.
Basically, the couple would get engaged without ever having a true date or without ever having a chance to talk or go out together.
After they get engaged, the couple gets to hand out at the girl’s house; however there are always family members around for most of the time. During the engagement period, it’s the time for the couple to get to know one another, and talk about their past, present and future together. One thing I truly like about Albanian arranged marriages, is that we hardly ever have any cases were young girls are arranged to marry older man. Most arraignments take place within the same group age.
So that’s a typical Albanian arranged marriage.
My marriage was kind of arranged as well. However it wasn’t that dramatic and it was my choice 100%.
(I will defiantly dedicate a post to my wedding arrangements and to my marriage story)
