Back to School

Back to school  Tips (For High School- Middle School Students)

Hello and welcome back to school! :)Yes, I know nobody wants to wake up close to 6:30 A.M. or a little later in the morning just to go to school, but school time is like 40% of our lifetime spent. HAHA I bet you didn’t know that? Did you? So I’m sure you’re here for a reason… and that reason has to include being best this year and getting the most out of your high school, middle school experience.

So here we go.

1. DO NOT PROCRASTINATE!!! ( yes, it’s true that everyone does it at some point, but believe me it doesn’t feel good to cram on Thursday night for that Friday morning that your paper is due, or homework , project etc.)

2. This is going to sound very extra cheese & and you’re going to read this and look at those two words and give a “ugh, blahhh , whatevs” expression, but BE YOURSELF! Honestly BE YOURSELF! You wouldn’t even imagine how many people would love you for who you truly are, don’t try to be someone you’re not because everyone else is like that. The worst thing that could happen is if you’re not yourself and you make friends that think you’re the person that you’re trying to be you will then wind up regretting it because that’s not really you and when you start showing your true honest beautiful colors, they won’t like you much. SO from the start BE YOURSELF!

3. Have a good relationship with your teachers, believe me it’s going to benefit you so much.

- You will get your pass when you ask to go to the library, bathroom, or cafeteria when you have those days that you didn’t eat anything.

- You will be more likely comfortable to ask questions and understand the subject you’re studying.

- On those days that you miss your homework, the teacher will most likely forgive you and accept your homework the next day!

That brings me to -

4. DO YOUR HOMEWORK!!! (and no I don’t mean copy the smarty in the class, or do them real quick before class starts, but do your homework , at HOME.. it’s called HOMEwork for a reason. And yes I know, I know that we all have those days that we’re just so busy and can’t get to it, but trust me, you will be so much better off doing it as soon as possible.) You don’t want your grade to suffer because you leave your homework at the last minute, check out number one again!. THE PLUS SIDE – you will be more prepared for class, participate in class discussions and your grade will be phenomenal!

5. ABSOLUTELY NO TEXTING, unless someone just texted you “evacuate your school because it’s going to blow up in 10, 9, 8, 7 ….. & you’re 99% sure that you’re all at risk of dying… leave the txt for later! & most schools have rules that all cell phones have to be put away at all times till the last bell rings, so don’t let a simple text that isn’t so important cost you detention or even getting your precious cell phone confiscated.

6. Do not get distracted! (oh yes I know (his so cute! and he fits your criteria in every way) and for the guys (I know she looks FINE!!) but, those few minutes you spend staring just cost you an important tip on the coming up test. So stop getting distracted, not worth your grade.

7. No cutting classes you wild children! Lol first of, you’re risking suspension, your parents finding out and then winding up being on lockdown! , so leave what you’re going to do for AFTERschool and stay in school grounds, where you’re designated to be at ALL TIMES!

8. Do not socialize too much, the hallways are made to walk in, not stand and talk in... There are no coffee spots in school, unless of course you’re a teacher, but you’re not so … STOP TALKING AND GET TO WALKING!

9. School isn’t a runway, fashion show, or Americas Next Top Model, and the guys are not there to audition for any bachelor show, SCHOOL IS FOR RECEIVING AN EDUCATION that will last a lifetime… not 15 minute fame or a 2 week fling.

10. Oh and Attendance is very important! No tardiness, 2 times late equals 1 absence in most schools. You don’t want to miss the first few minutes of class... That’s when the teacher will take attendance and talk about the AIM of the day, and the “DO NOW”. So get to class before the late bell rings, you really don’t want to find that door closed, or even worse get caught in a hall sweep. !

THANKS FOR READING AND ENJOY!

I hope you found this advice helpful <3

- Have a wonderful school year & don’t forget to SmiLe !!!

Internships

Hey there!!!

Internships, who likes to work for free??? I know most of us would hate to work for free, unless its community service or it involves helping people in need. But believe it or not, internships have great advantages beyond a simple pay check.

I did two unpaid internships. One of them was three times a week, for 4 hours each day. So it was about 12 hours a week, which wasn’t bad at all. I actually enjoyed it a lot, because I was given the opportunity to learn as much as possible about laws, domestic violence cases, child abuse cases, and much more. Since I majored in Criminal Justice, it was the perfect internship considering what interested me. However, at times it did get annoying because I had to go three times a week, no excuses; which meant I would miss out on lots of events my parents took part off. However, thanks to that internship I became more mature, responsible, and I was also able to improve my skills and build connections and friendships.

My second internship was a great experience as well. Although that internship focused more on social work/field I truly liked it. Through that internship I was able to but my skills to work and help many different people solve their personal problems. That internship also got me a great reference letter, plus 3 college credits.

So I defiantly recommend people to complete as much internship as possible. Don’t get discouraged just because it might be unpaid. Although there are a few internships paid, the majority 90% are unpaid, however always focus on the positive sides of it. Think about how good it will look on your resume, the extra college credits you will get out of this internship, the connections and skills you will build and improve, plus the great reference letters you will be able to get.

In addition, if you are lucky enough you might even be asked to work there once your internship time is over. Unfortunately for me, on both cases I wasn’t asked to work there because for the first internship I was supposed to have a Master’s degree, or a Law degree, and for the other internship due to lack of work they weren’t hiring, plus I also needed to be a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in order to work there. However, that didn’t discourage me from finding a job somewhere else. I made sure I left a great exit impression in order to get great references, and you should do the same.

In other words, internships are great to teach you more about the field you are planning in studying, increasing and improving your skills, your communication and social skills, your connections, and opening many different doors for your future !!!

Good luck with finding the best internship!!!

Thanks for reading and don’t forget to SmiLe =)

Find a College

Hey there, hope you find this information helpful!!!

I remember when I was in my fourth year of high school, feeling so stressed out because I was not sure of what college to go to. On top of having to write so many essays to different colleges and scholarships, I had to maintain my high average, plus go to my internship site three days a week. So trust me it wasn’t easy to handle everything at once.

However, the most important thing you should do in order to find the perfect college for your lifestyle and personality is taking into consideration 3 very important things.

1. Location- Where do you live, every do you want to live while you are attending college, are you willing to drive 1 or 2 hours every morning and afternoon to go to college and come back home, do you even have a car to go to school with. Will you take the train, or the bus, or will somebody else provide transportation for you. I know, there are a lot of students that think of transportation lastly, but that isn’t a good thing to do at all, because you will have to make sure you have the appropriate form of transportation.

- I personally decided to go to a college that wasn’t far from me. It only took me 15-20 minutes to drive to college. Plus I was lucky enough to have my own car, thanks to my husband.

2. Tuition $$$- It is very important that you take into consideration how much money the college you want to go will be. You have to think about how much money you are capable of paying. How many loans you can afford to take and who else is helping you will your college expenses. However, you should defiantly consider applying to as many scholarships as possible (PLEASE DON’T BECOME LAZY WHEN IT COMES TO WRITING ESSAYS IN ORDER TO GET AS MUCH FREE MONEY FOR COLLEGE AS POSSIBLE). You should start applying to scholarships since your junior year. In other words you want to make sure that you can afford the college you are planning to go to.

- I personally went to a college that cost around $6,000.00 per semester, which is not that cheep. Fortunately I didn’t have to take any loans out, due to help from lots of scholarships I won and also from my parents and husbands financial support.

3. College campus/reputation- You want to make sure the college you plan on going to has a reputable reputation in the eyes of the public. You also want to visit as many colleges as possible to make sure that you like the campus and the structure of the college. But most importantly you want to find out as much information about how many students are per class, and the professor’s education level. You don’t want to end up being tough about a particular subject that the professor has no experience in. You also don’t want to end up going to a college that has 100 students per class, when you are the type of person that only wants 20-25 students in the same class. After all I don’t believe you would want to be just a social number to your professors.

- I personally wanted to go to a college that would give me the opportunity to meet the professors in a personal/professional level. I didn’t want to be a simple number. I wanted to make sure that I get the worth of every penny I was paying for college. By knowing the professors personally it allowed me to ask them for help, for advice, and most importantly for future letters of reference.

In addition, you should make sure you go to a college that offers the appropriate degree and major you want to achieve. You should also investigate about your colleges Career Advancement office. It is very important you do so, because CAO will help you find internships, jobs and most importantly it will help you build your resume and connections. It is important that you find out how involved the CAO is with the students.

- I personally was very interested in finding out how much the college I was planning on attending helped the students find official jobs. The college I went to truly helped me, from making a resume, to finding me an internship, to helping me with my job search.

My advice to you is that make sure you are 100% sure about the college you plan on going to, the more information you know each college you apply to, the better it will be, because it will be easy for you to compare them and to make the appropriate final decision.

Good luck with finding the best college for your personality, lifestyle and future plans!!!!

Thanks for reading and don’t forget to smile =)
