What is this Ad promoting?
Is it saying that male dominance is sexy? Since this Ad is a modern present day Ad from Dolce & Gabbana, a very recognized and extortionate name brand, many people may not question it.
But, I do.
Why are there several guys around only one girl that’s on the floor being pined down by a muscular guy? She’s trying to stand, but can’t, and even if she does, there three others that are there for back up. Further more, why are there four guys? Isn’t one enough? Is this Ad stating that men are scared of women and need help to take one down? Or is this add suggesting that woman are vicious and need to be tamed down by men?
This Ad provokes me. Being a women of 2010 I do not tolerant male dominance, I believe that every one should be equal.
What do you think?
The opposite occurs in modern day pop culture in many forms. From TV shows to movies to photographs.
ReplyDeleteA great example is the new Pepsi Maxx Commercial where a black couple are shown. The male wants to eat and drink whatever he chooses. But every time he tries to sneak a bite to eat of something he wants, the woman, who is overweight, pops up and takes it from him.
At the end of the commercial he cowers in fear of the woman when she catches him taking a sip of Pepsi Maxx. But she too is drinking Pepsi Maxx, so she doesn't take it taken away him. But then a young white female jogger sits down on a bench next to the black couple. The man looks over at the young white female. He makes a little smile at her and she smiles back. The black female then pulls back her arm and throws the can of Pepsi Maxx at his head. But he ducked and it flew over him and hit the young white female jogger. Then the two got up and ran away while the jogger laid on the ground holding her face.
This was aired during the Super Bowl. The above Dolce ad can only be seen if you look for it and it was not aired during the most highly watched sporting event all year.
This is what angers me about feminists. You piss and moan about these little ads and sayings in the magazines you pay for. Sometimes you even separate yourselves from average women and say they are ignorant, which is why they think as they do. Get a grip. Women are no where near second class citizens. Women are treated like the golden children sent from the gods.
But anyway, the woman in the Pepsi ad abused her husband physically and emotionally throughout the whole commercial. Then at the end of it, she tried to bounce an almost full can of Pepsi off of his face.
Now imagine if Pepsi made an ad, but the roles were reversed. Imagine it was the man going around chasing his wife saying she needed to watch what she eats, and some lose weight. He would be the one taking food from her, controlling what she ate. And at the end she cowered in fear of being hit by him when he caught her drinking Pepsi. Now imagine he pulls him arm back to hurl a Pepsi can at her face for making eye-contact and smiling at another man.
Pepsi would get sued. The feminists would protest the whole company and all of its affiliates. The GM of marketing would get fired and the CEO would have to make a press release stating they don't condone violent acts against women.
But because of the female gender bias in American culture, males can get treated like garbage and treated like the property of females in pop-culture. You want to fight for an issue that is worth fighting for, fight against female abuse. Not in the traditional sense. Because if you look at the statistics, women abuse men more than men abuse women.
Try to teach women that getting upset and hitting or throwing something at someone isn't ok. This ad not only says its ok, but that its also funny. Spousal abuse is not funny. And this isn't limited to this one Pepsi ad. I see it in TV all the time.
The wife smacks the husband in the back of the head or punches his arm, or belittles him. If these things happened in the reverse, the TV series would end. The actors probably wouldn't even act out the scene.
As a male living in this female centric world that we all have been thrown into, I see far more injustices done to men than to women. I mean sexism is institutionalized. And the institution is sexist against men.
Heard of any group for men to go to when women abuse, intimidate, harass, subdue, or stifle them? Me neither. That is because none exist. But females get one. The system isn't just for men anymore. It is for both groups. Women not only get their own groups and lobbies, but they also get to have power within the structures for everyone. What makes them so special? Why don't men have a group to solely look out for their best interests?
I agree with everything the previous poster said - and I'm a female ...
ReplyDeleteThis is a woman's world. Men are the ones discriminated against. I'm perfectly happy at home, being treated like a princess by my husband... Feminism is something I've never understood....
